Why save food?

Food is something that has the power to unite and divide the earth. Often, our memories are associated with the food we eat. It is indeed a thing to ponder how much food we waste. It is one of the necessities of life. Around 6.5 million tons of food is wasted every year. Out of this, around 4.5 tons are edible. There are several reasons why food gets wasted. The major one is turning new consumer awareness into action.

The public should be made aware of the impact of wasting food. Some countries have largely benefited by increasing public awareness on the issue. Another reason could be that it has not been effectively measured or studied. Many European nations have performed studies to see what steps can be taken to overcome and address the problem of food waste.

The main reason why food waste is a serious problem is that it adds to greenhouse gas emissions. The problem stems not only from consumers generating waste, but also from the entire food production process, which includes agricultural cultivation, animals, and even the manufacturing process. There is also a waste of resources such as water, as well as transportation of produce and food processing. It is alarming to learn that one-third of all food produced globally is wasted, amounting to 1.3 billion tonnes and that a quarter of our water supply is required to produce the food we consume.

When we save food, we indirectly save more than simply food. We save money by extending the shelf life, and it contributes to the slowing of global warming and deforestation. It also reduces the quantity of food we toss out, which means you won't have to go around looking for the correct trash bags. It may appear to be a simple task, but these modest measures may have a significant impact. Make a difference by becoming the change.
